A Review on the Appropriate Dosage of Aspirin as a Prophylactic Agent Against Deep Vein Thrombosis Following Total Knee Arthroplasties

Guidelines regarding Deep Vein Thrombosis prophylaxis following total knee arthroplasties have had conflicting information the use of aspirin as a prophylactic agent in recent years. The National Institute for Clinical Excellence refrains from listing drug its guidelines while American College Chest Physicians advocates drug. Despite guidelines, physicians favored years, with more than 80% utilizing it arthroplasties. Although consensus may been reached by drug, has not preferred dosage. With this mind, search PubMed database was conducted which yielded six studies that discussed efficacy various dose ranges aspirin. All corroborated only an effective agent, but there no significant difference between dosages efficacies. Due to factors such resistance and potential cause gastrointestinal injuries, literature review concludes dosage given DVT TKAs should be considered on patient basis.
